To make it convenient and secure for patients to register online, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Ghana will soon be fully digitalized.
When this useful innovation is put into practise, it will reduce the volume of traffic at the NHIS district offices, where people routinely go for the same reason.
Dr. Ernest K.P. Kwarko, the chair of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Governing Board, announced this in Accra during a ceremony when the Authority signed agreements with the four new teams joining the regional Premier League.
In order to take advantage of the extended Benefits Package, which now includes the diagnosis and treatment of four major childhood malignancies, including acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, Burkitt lymphoma, retinoblastoma, and Wilms tumour, he invited all non-members of the Scheme to join.
Dr. Ernest K. P. Kwarko, the chairman of the governing board, is optimistic that the collaborations would support the Scheme's active membership at 80%..
In order to address the ongoing problem of excessive financial demands by some qualified health care service providers, NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Okoe Boye NHIA reiterated the formation of a fact-finding committee.
To lessen the impact of out-of-pocket payments on access to medical treatments covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the authority established a nine-member committee.
"The Committee's mandate is to guarantee that the NHIA remains committed to its strategy to provide financial risk protection against the cost of high-quality, universally accessible basic healthcare for all Ghanaians," said the committee.
To enable the NHIA Regional and District management teams to be in charge of visiting healthcare institutions, making reports, and elevating copayment issues to the higher authorities for fast action, the committee would be reproduced across the 16 regions of Ghana.
