The Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) has given the public in Ghana a heads-up that there will soon be an increase in transportation costs.
According to the GPRTU leadership, the new tariff results from the ongoing rise in fuel prices. At the time of the union, commercial vehicle owners' financial situations were being negatively impacted by the rising cost of fuel.
Petrol now costs more than Ghc 11 per litre, while most gas stations sell diesel for more over Ghc 14 per litre.
Abbas Moro, the GPRTU's head of communication, emphasised in an interview with Citi News that members of the union are pushing for an increase in the cost of truck fares.
"There are numerous factors to watch out for, including the current economic condition, the official added. We have alerted the general public that if the price is up to 10% and above the previous price, we are expected to increase price (lorry fares) automatically. So for where we are heading, we cannot keep sacrificing absolutely when our leadership meets something great must come out," he concludes.
